A Private Investigator Walks into a Psychic Fair
It sounds like the beginning of a joke, but this really happened.
Bob Olson is the host of Afterlife TV, author of two books, Answers About The Afterlife and The Magic Mala, and creator of the reputable directory of psychics and mediums, BestPsychicDirectory.com.
For over a year, Melissa and I have been working on a fictional novella of my true story as a private eye. It tells the story of my final murder investigation while simultaneously beginning my investigation of the afterlife.
Each of these melding stories is riveting in its own right. This particular murder case was one of the oddest experiences of my life, revealing the struggles and darkness that shadowed an old mill town after the mills closed. The coincidences and mystical phenomena that unfolded and led me to shift my focus toward the afterlife were never more interesting than at the beginning.
Once I committed to using my skills as a private eye to investigate life after death, I sought experiences that might give me insight. Someone had recommended that I attend a local psychic fair to experience a reading, so I took the challenge.
We’ve chosen to write this story as fictional-based-on-truth for two reasons. One, we’re writing about an actual murder investigation, so we have to change the names and details to not reveal the specifics of the confidential case. It’s also a fictional account because I did not write articles about every detail of my murder investigation as I have done with my afterlife investigations. Consequently, since we rely on distant memory to recount the story, it’s more accurate and honest to call it a fictional story based on actual events.
The writing has taken a long time since we have more important work, such as working on Best Psychic Directory, Bob Olson Connect, and, beginning this week, Afterlife TV. The story within the story that I’m sharing with you today is about the first time I visited a psychic fair.
If you’ve never been to one, attending a psychic fair is an experience worth having. These events occur at fairgrounds, rental halls, and gymnasiums. They’re often only announced in small local newspapers and metaphysical magazines, often in the classified section under Events. We also have a few psychic and medium events listed on Best Psychic Directory, occasionally including psychic fairs.
Psychic fairs can be hokey, but some are classier than others, meaning they are more professionally structured. The primary purpose of these events is to get on-the-spot readings with psychics, mediums, animal communicators, and divination readers of all sorts (tarot cards, crystals, palms). As you'll see at the story's beginning, it’s also a great place to buy products related to this field.
While psychic fairs aren’t likely to have psychics or mediums in high demand (unless hired to attract a crowd), many of these readers are legitimately gifted. The readings are also quite reasonable in cost. In fact, Spiritualist Churches, which are usually operated by mediums, commonly have this type of event. Since these churches teach psychic and mediumistic abilities, these events are intended to give students practice while providing low-cost readings for the community.
I’m sharing this article to give you a sense of the experience—to know what to expect if you attend a psychic fair.
