I noticed a lot of Substack writers offering a list of things worth sharing, which seems to be very popular with readers, so I thought I’d create one for you. It’s not something I’ll do frequently, but I thought doing one every so often might be fun. It introduces you to new things while getting to know me and my interests a little more.
1) Television: On the subject of grief, if you haven’t seen After Life with Ricky Gervais on Netflix, it’s definitely worth a watch. Some people aren’t a fan of Ricky, but this TV series is Ricky’s mild side. It’s a comedy-drama that explores the many facets of grief. As an example, Melissa and I saw it when it first came out, told all our friends about it, and most procrastinated watching it. By the second or third season, everyone who watched it had become avid fans.
2) Music: If you’re a PBS Passport member and a Joni Mitchell fan, I recommend: Joni Mitchell: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize. If you’re not a member, you can watch videos of some of the performances online. Here are a few highlights: Graham Nash sings A Case of You. An all-star cast performs Big Yellow Taxi. Annie Lennox sings Both Sides Now.
I just sent this to a dear friend of mine who is undergoing a medical treatment, so I thought I’d share it here as well. Joni Mitchell sang for the first time in 2020 at the Newport Folk Festival following her brain aneurism and coma in 2015. It was a miraculous recovery. Joni singing Both Sides Now during that festival is worth a watch. I’m always inspired by the power of the human spirit.
3) Books: I was recently asked by St. Martin’s Publishing Group to write a review of Paul Selig’s upcoming book. If you’re a Selig fan as I am, you’ll want to pre-order now. It’s incredible. Here’s my review:
“The Book of Innocence is a culmination of Selig’s illuminating library of channeled texts, enhancing The Guides’ earlier teachings with an eye-opening clarity. It presents an indisputable case for dismantling our belief in separation, an invitation to recognize our true nature (our innocence), and instructions for reclaiming this divinity within us, which has been concealed by our chosen identity. If there were ever a manual for rebirth and awakening, this is it. By far, my favorite channeled book to date.”

4) Health: In 2021, I underwent several medical tests to determine why I was getting migraines. I learned that I had high levels of mold in my system. It didn’t end up being the source of my headaches, but I found that a common source of mold is coffee. It turns out that a lot of coffee sold in stores, including organic coffees, have mold. I found a mold-free coffee called Purity Coffee (there are others). It’s not cheap, but neither is being sick from mold. Melissa and I have been drinking their “Ease” dark roast and are loving it.
5) Podcasts: I love to listen to podcasts while I’m showering and getting ready for my day. One that I’ve really enjoyed is Clear + Vivid with Alan Alda. He’s talked with guests about thinking with your hands, artificial intelligence, and connecting with rhinos, octopuses, and hawks, plus chatted with celebs including Melissa McCarthy, Judd Apatow, and James Burrows. If you love Alan’s voice as I do, it’s worth checking out on your favorite podcast app.
6) Products: As a writer who works at home, I needed some earbuds that could block distractions while I listen to music and write. I had some old earbuds that were getting pretty worn out. So I went to the Apple store to try out the AirPods Pro 2. It turned out the darn things won’t stay in my ears. They’re too big! Apparently, it’s a common issue for people (not everyone). The salesperson told me about an earbud called Beats Fit Pro. He said Apple purchased Beats, so the technology works seamlessly with Apple products. He suggested I test them out for myself, which is one of the things I like about Apple stores.
I tried the Beats Fit Pro and they actually fit really well in my ears. Moreover, they have a little wingtip that keeps it secure in your ear. I’ve worn them walking the dogs and working in the yard, and they didn’t so much as threaten to fall out. Even better, I felt the Beats Fit Pros sounded better than the Apple AirPods Pro 2, although I know some audiophiles won’t agree. I’ve now owned them for a few months and absolutely love them.
7) Webcams: I’m fairly new to live webcams, but boy they’re a lot of fun. If you haven’t tried them, just do a search for “live wildlife webcams” on YouTube. When I did this, within seconds I was watching wild animals in Africa, including elephants, zebras, an alligator, and a few animals I can’t name. What’s nice is that even though it’s a live webcam, it shows the recording from the last twelve hours, so you can scroll back to see what was recorded two, five, or even twelve hours prior. Here’s the link and a screenshot of what I watched below: https://www.youtube.com/live/9VsZidtoO54?feature=share
8) Stories: If you’re missing a good story this week, I have one that is in line with my latest Tuesday article on pets and the afterlife. It’s a touching story about loss and love written by one of my favorite Substack writers,
. It’s titled, From Atticus to Samwise to Emily: How We Grow.I’d love to hear if you’ve enjoyed this first edition of Soul Sharing. I’m even curious which item you enjoyed the most. Thanks for being a part of Bob Olson Connect.
Wishing you blessings and joy,
Bob

Good points to make. Purity Coffee? I never heard of it. Where does one find it? I’ve tried them all. Nothing so far comes close to Starbucks ( which we buy in bulk). The next closest brands that taste like real coffee are McDonald’s and Panera… now this is my tastebuds talking. But I have some semblance of knowledge because my grandfather grew coffee in Hawaii.
Great list and generous to share with your readers. I am already very familiar with 1, 2 and 5 which makes me think I'd better check out the rest! I'm happy to see Purity Coffee offers decaf.
