Soul Sharing - August 2023
Soulful treasures worth sharing.
Here’s my newest list of soulful things worth sharing.
PERSONAL - LIGHTNING
On a personal note, a tree in our backyard was struck by lightning last Friday. Melissa and I heard and felt it but didn’t see it (I wish we did). These photos don’t do it justice, but one side of the tree basically exploded as much as 50 feet in three directions. Once we looked outside and investigated, we found numerous pieces weighing 25 pounds or more, some six feet long, in all areas of our yard. Mother Nature is one powerful force.
MIND OVER MATTER - HIDDEN MESSAGES IN WATER
In 2005, Melissa and I attended a Hay House “I Can Do It” conference where Japanese scientist Masaru Emoto gave a presentation. He used a translator for his talk, which added to the impact of his words because it slowed the presentation down to allow the audience to absorb it fully. Emoto passed away in 2014, but if you’re unfamiliar with his work, his eye-opening book, Hidden Messages in Water, about the power of our thoughts, is highly recommended. Here’s a 90-second video that presents the essence of Emoto’s work to remind us of the true impact of our thoughts and prayers.
BOOKS - SPIRITUALITY MEETS SCIENCE
Driving to the store the other day, I heard an interview with Dr. Lisa Miller, who wrote, The Awakened Brain. I got the book but haven’t read it yet. I bought it because I heard her interviewed on All Things Considered. It’s a short 15-minute interview, but it’s worth a listen.
Long story short, Dr. Lisa Miller of Columbia University did research on neuroscience and spirituality, concluding that a spiritual or religious foundation has both physical and mental benefits that can reduce people’s likelihood of dealing with addiction or depression. I already believed this was true (you probably do, too), but she’s connected this belief with scientific evidence.
MUSIC - AFTERLIFE
I recently heard a soulful song by David Crosby, who passed in January. His longtime friend, Graham Nash, sings harmony in the background. An interview with Nash revealed that they used wine glasses filled with water to create some of the harmonies in the background. I can’t help but think that Crosby was asking questions about the afterlife in these simple lyrics. If that’s true, I’m pleased that many of these questions are answered right here on Bob Olson Connect.
“Where Will I Be” song lyrics:
Where will I be when I go back home?
Who will I see when I'm all alone? And what'll I do?
Where will I be when I go back home?
Who will I see when I'm all alone?
And you tell me, What am I going to do?

HEALTH - TONY ROBBINS:
I’ve been a fan of Tony Robbins since the 80s. In fact, Melissa gave me his book, Unlimited Power, as a wedding gift, which was released that same year. I loved that gift and still have it today. Well, last year, Robbins was interviewed by Jay Shetty at his home. His book, Life Force, was new at the time of this interview, so they talked a lot about health. Robbins tells the story of being diagnosed with a brain tumor, which is quite fascinating. It’s a wonderfully engaging interview.
Here's a great quote from Tony: “Just because someone seems to have more certainty, doesn’t mean they’re right.”
BEAUTY - ALASKA
I’ll end with one of my favorite photos taken by my favorite person in the whole world. In 2008, our dear friend invited Melissa on a cruise around Alaska after Melissa had been dealing with a health crisis. The cruise was sponsored by Hay House, much like the conference with Masaru Emoto. Melissa took this photo to share the experience with me, which encompassed all the beauty of that heavenly state in one shot: water, an ice glacier, mountains, trees, and a field of color. This photo soothes my soul whenever I look at it, so I thought I’d share it with you.
I hope you enjoyed today’s issue of Soul Sharing. There’s a lot to inform and entertain you here, including podcast and video interviews, book recommendations, music to enjoy, and a short-yet-powerful demonstration of gratitude’s effect on water. Say hello in the comments, and I wish you a fun, adventurous, and joyful weekend.
