The Senior Citizen Who Keeps Winning!
How a senior citizen wins at life using the power of thought awareness.

If you read my book, The Magic Mala, you know that I’m fascinated with the power of our minds to create the future of our desires. Most people use this ability to attract abundance, but we can equally use these techniques to attract health, new friendships, greater joy, and more fulfilling careers. The only limitations to what we can create exist within our ability to imagine and our beliefs about what is possible.
From my interest in this field of unlimited potential, I've learned that we constantly send requests to this intelligent energy. You may call this energy God, Source, or the Universe. In other words, because our minds are continually active, our thoughts feed the field of unlimited potential with requests for a future that matches our focus.
I’ve proven to myself that “what we focus upon expands” many times over the years. I’ve seen it in my life, and I’ve seen it in the lives of my friends and family members. Consequently, I know how important it is to monitor my thinking. This means that it’s equally vital that we remain aware of the thoughts in our heads while also policing them—AKA altering them—to be sure we’re asking for what we want versus what we don’t want.
Because this is true, it’s an ongoing practice we never fully master. Like playing a musical instrument or sport, there is always room for improvement through training and assessment. For this reason, I occasionally catch myself thinking thoughts related to fear and worry. When we worry, we’re focusing on what we don’t want to happen, yet the field of unlimited potential doesn’t understand this. This field is more like a computer than a human brain since computers can’t reason. Whatever we feed it is what it knows, and the only way to feed the field of unlimited potential is through our focus.
Recently, I found myself spending a lot of money. I had a string of visits to the dentist, including a crown. My dog needed to go to the vet. I needed to buy hearing aids so I would stop asking people to repeat themselves (aging is fun). And we had to replace a major appliance. That’s just the beginning, but I don’t want to focus on the longer list because I learn from my mistakes 😁.
I share this with you only to explain why I caught myself worrying that there might be more money going out than coming in. It’s a natural reaction to experiencing a string of unanticipated expenses. Still, if I focused on it too much, the thoughts could act like a request to the field of unlimited potential. Thus, my awareness of my fearful thinking led me to rewire my focus on what I want versus what I don’t want. I became immediately proactive.
I hadn’t used my mala in a few weeks, so I returned to a daily practice using my mala beads. I began using the Sanskrit mantra for abundance, Om Shrim Maha Lakshmiyei Swaha. I also purchased Mind Magic, a book by neuroscientist Dr. James R. Doty, who has researched the science of manifestation. Doty’s research led me to use meditation as part of my practice. Finally, I was also reminded of Dr. Joe Dispenza’s work and his 2019 book Becoming Supernatural, which includes meditation to visualize the future of our desires. (Details of both books are below.)
There’s a famous quote from Joe Dispenza in the 2004 film What the BLEEP Do We Know!? that summarizes his philosophy. In a nutshell, Joe describes how he asks God/Source to show him a sign that his awakening to this power of manifestation is real and true. Here’s what he said in that film.
"I wake up in the morning and I consciously create my day the way I want it to happen. Now sometimes, because my mind is examining all the things that I need to get done, it takes me a little bit to settle down and get to the point of where I'm actually intentionally creating my day. But here's the thing: When I create my day and out of nowhere little things happen that are so unexplainable, I know that they are the process or the result of my creation. And the more I do that, the more I build a neural net in my brain that I accept that that's possible. [This] gives me the power and the incentive to do it the next day.
"So if we're consciously designing our destiny, and if we're consciously, from a spiritual standpoint, throwing in with the idea that our thoughts can affect our reality or affect our life—because reality equals life—then I have this little pact that I have when I create my day. I say, 'I'm taking this time to create my day and I'm infecting the quantum field. Now if, in fact, the observer's watching me the whole time that I'm doing this, and there is a spiritual aspect to myself, then show me a sign today that you paid attention to any one of these things that I created, and bring them in a way that I won't expect, so I'm as surprised at my ability to be able to experience these things, and make it so that I have no doubt that it's come from you.' And so I live my life, in a sense, all day long thinking about being a genius... or thinking about being the glory and the power of God... or thinking about being unconditional love.
"I'll use living as a genius, for example. And as I do that during parts of the day, I'll have thoughts that are so amazing, that they cause a chill in my physical body, that have come from nowhere. But then I remember that that thought has an associated energy that's produced an effect in my physical body. Now that's a subjective experience, but the truth is that I don't think that unless I was creating my day to have unlimited thought, that that thought would come."
I recall hearing Joe say this in that film and wishing I had the quote to carry around with me. What he describes has been my experience as well. Once I begin consciously creating my future, I pay attention to the evidence that what I’m focusing on is expanding. This evidence comes in unexplainable and surprising ways, so I know that my daily practice of focusing my thoughts on what I want my future to be is working. I got that evidence recently, which I’ll share in a brief story.
Every summer, Melissa and I have a tradition of attending a baseball game with our nephews. We took them to a Red Sox game a few years ago, but most years, we root for a local team that’s part of the New England Collegiate Baseball League—the Sanford Mainers—at Goodall Park, where Babe Ruth once stepped up to the plate. There’s something special about the small community vibe there, which includes hot dog stands, Sanford Mainers merch, and tickets that only cost seven bucks.
I tell you this story because two summers ago, I found myself in a similar situation where I noticed a lot of expenses in a short period. I caught myself worrying about money that summer, so I focused my daily mala practice around abundance—what I wanted rather than feared. Two weeks later, we attended a Mainers’ game with our nephews and their parents, and I won $105 in the 50/50 raffle. The organization sells raffle tickets to people who come to watch the game, and fifty percent of the proceeds go to the organization, while fifty percent goes to the raffle winner with the lucky ticket.
We missed going to a game last year because our nephews were so busy, so when we had the opportunity to go last Tuesday, we took advantage of it. As I purchased tickets to the park, Melissa noticed a senior discount for people over sixty. As Melissa told me I qualified (a bittersweet realization), the lady in the ticket booth handed me back two bucks. I thought, My manifestation practice is already working! I just made two dollars.
We found our seats in the bleachers, and when the guy came into the stands selling raffle tickets, I bought tickets for everyone in our party. After all, I was playing with the house’s money from my 50/50 raffle win two years prior. I gave everyone their tickets as the man handed them to me, and then kept the last tickets for myself. An hour later, they called out the winning numbers, and sure enough, I was holding the winning ticket. I won $264!
As Joe stated in his quote above, chills ran down my spine. Considering we only attend a Mainers game once or twice a year and haven’t gone since the last time I won, the message I received was that my manifestation practice reflected what I was focusing on. Because the message held more value than the money, and I prefer abundance to flow through me, I shared my winnings with my family members and told them what I had done to make it happen.
Thanks for reading. I wish you and your loved ones a Happy Fourth of July!
Love,
Bob
PS, There’s something truly compelling about receiving evidence that our thoughts really do affect the quantum field. And I remind you that this isn’t solely about money or material possessions. This can also be about positively impacting our health, which leads me to recommend the film Source: It’s Within You, Joe Dispenza’s newest documentary about this same power of visualization through meditation to create miraculous health benefits. This film presents extraordinary anecdotal evidence that this work can improve one’s health while also presenting scientific proof of the health benefits of meditation. You can watch the movie for fifteen dollars, which I sincerely recommend. I also endorse his 2019 book Becoming Supernatural.
I also mentioned Dr. James R. Doty’s book, Mind Magic, about the neuroscience of manifestation. He has an earlier book that tells the story of how he first became proficient with manifestation techniques. If you prefer stories over instructional texts, Into the Magic Shop might be more your style. It’s the story of twelve-year-old Doty, who met a woman at a magic store who agreed to teach him how to manifest his greatest desires.
